Rushing to get a horse tacked up so you can make a quick getaway.
About a minute and 15 seconds.
Now, there's a big caveat here and that's this: this man here uses a saddle. When I was a stupid kid I learned how to hide bareback. I learned how to grab a horse's spine and haul my dumbass up in under 10 seconds - the amount of time it took to pull my legs up and throw them over the horse as he got a head start by starting to run as I’m pulling my dumbass up and over. Also valid to start with the horse at a walk and use forward momentum to pull my dumbass self up on the move.
I cannot do that anymore. I'm not 14 anymore, I'm 40. I've also not been able to be around horses since I was in my early 20s. But my point stands, for the skills involved here are skills that will stick with you if you use them often.
Now if you're being chased? If you're being pursued and need to fuck off against mounted pursuit? Ten seconds versus a minute 15 gives you a whole 60 second head start. That is not much and you're potentially under archer fire the whole time. You will need to use more than just speed and head start to get away, you will need terrain, tactics, and a decent amount of luck.
